How to clean Zojirushi coffee maker step-by-step
Step1. Unplug the coffee maker from the outlet and allow the main body and the keep warm plate to cool down before cleaning.
Step2. Clean the main body
1. wipe it, clean it with a well-wrung cloth with kitchen detergent.
2. after the use of the detergent, wipe with a well-wrung damp cloth.
3. wipe off any residue on the main body with a dry cloth.
Step3. Clean water tank, lid, lid for the cone basket, cone basket, glass jug
1. wash them, clean them with a sponge and kitchen detergent. (use only kitchen detergent when cleaning.)
2. wipe off any residue with a dry cloth after rinsing the parts.
- Do not splash the main body, power cord, and power plug with water or immerse them in water.
Step4. Clean power cord and power plug

with the use of the coffee maker, minerals contained in water may accumulate inside the pipes, these are called “limescale” and if they accumulate, the water may not drip smoothly, the amount of brewed coffee may be less, or the purifying filter may be clogged.
The amount of limescale formation varies as it depends on the water type and its quality, more limescale may accumulate with the use of mineral-rich water.
Always detach the purifying filter before cleaning and maintenance, performing the limescale cleaning listed below without detaching the purifying filter may alter the taste of the coffee.
To descale Zojirushi coffee maker:
1. Add one teaspoon of citric acid (approximately 4g) to the glass jug with 500 ML of water.
2. Stir well until the citric acid dissolves.
3. Pour in the water tank and set the water tank to the main body.
4. Set the lid, glass jug, and cone basket to the main body and begin brewing.
5. Turn off the switch when the water level reaches 1 (one).
- Always remove the lid for the cone basket when performing citric acid cleaning, as hot water may spill.
6. After the liquid with the citric acid has completely cooled down:
- Remove the scale floating in the liquid and pour the liquid back into the water tank and repeat the procedure.
- Brewing with liquid that is not completely cooled down may cause hot water to spew.
7. After the keep warm plate has cooled down:
- Empty the water tank.
- Repeat the brewing process (rinse process) only a few times.
- When brewing more than one carafe of coffee, turn off the switch (the lamp will go out) and wait at least 5 minutes before starting the next brewing cycle.

Step1. Clean the main body

Step2. Clean water tank, lid, swing basket
1. wash with a sponge or soft material with diluted mil kitchen detergent.
2. rinse with water.

- Be sure to fully drain water from the swing basket. Otherwise, this water may drip into your coffee during brewing.
Step3. Clean showerhead
1. Rinse the showerhead under running water and dry well.
- Do not disassemble the showerhead.
If the showerhead becomes disassembled, reassemble it correctly:
- Align the slots (3 locations) on the upper shower head with the tabs(3 locations) on the lower shower head to attach.
Step4. Clean filter basket
1. Wash the filter basket, clean with a sponge or soft material with diluted mild kitchen detergent.
2. Rinse with water.
3. Pour water into the filter basket.
4. Press the drip prevention valve two or three times and wash.
5. Wipe dry with a soft dry cloth.
- If coffee grounds clog the drip prevention valve, it may not seal properly and coffee may overflow. Be sure to wash it.
- Be sure to fully drain water from the filter basket. Otherwise, this water may drop into your coffee during brewing.
- do not disassemble the drip prevention valve.
If it comes off, reattach correctly:
1. place the spring on the filter basket.
2. insert the drip prevention valve through the spring and into the opening of the filter basket.
3. hold the drip prevention valve in and attach the rubber gasket to the groove from the inside.
Be sure that the rubber gasket is attached securely. Water may leak if it is attached twisted or is loose.
Step5. Clean power cord and power plug
- Wipe with a soft dry cloth.
Step6. Clean stainless carafe (exterior)
1. wash the carafe with a sponge or soft material with diluted mild kitchen detergent.
2. Rinse with water and shake several times.
3. wipe dry with a soft dry cloth.
Step7. Clean stainless carafe (interior)
1. wash the inside of the carafe with a sponge brush or similar tool (with a handle) with diluted mild kitchen detergent.
- When you press the carafe button, a pin will pop out. Make sure to wash this pin as well you wash the inside of the carafe.
2. rinse with water and dry.
Note: to remove stains from the stainless carafe a food-safe coffee pot cleaner is recommended for cleaning. (when cleaning the stainless carafe using a food-safe coffee pot cleaner, remove the carafe lid set.)
Step8. Clean carafe lid set
1. remove the carafe lid packing.
2. wash the carafe lid and carafe lid packing with a sponge or soft material with diluted mild kitchen detergent.
3. rinse with water.
Clean the part where coffee passes through withing the carafe lid with water after each use to prevent clogging.
To clean the part where coffee passes through within the carafe lid:
- Press and hold the carafe lid valve or slide lever and rinse with running water.
4. shake the carafe lid several times while pressing and holding the carafe lid valve or slide lever. (otherwise, the remaining water may drip.)
5. wipe dry with a dry cloth.
6. reattach the carafe lid packing in its original position.
Note: If the carafe lid packing is damaged, discolored, or turns white, replace it with a new one.
- Do not detach or disassemble any part of the carafe lid set other than the carafe lid packing.
If parts of the carafe lid set come off accidentally, reattach them correctly do this:
1. Insert the carafe lid valve into the spring and the insert into the opening of the carafe lid.
2. attach the brew valve gasket to the carafe lid valve.
How to descale Zojirushi coffee maker ec-ysc100?
1. Put 1 package of the citric acid cleaner in ac up and add warm water to dissolve.
2. Pour it into the water tank and fill it with water to level 10 (MAX) on the water tank.
3. Stir the citric acid solution well.
4. Set the water tank, stainless (with the carafe lid set attached), filter basket, and swing basket to the main body.
5. Hold the START button for more than 3 seconds to initiate the citric acid cleaning process.
- To stop the citric acid cleaning process before it finishes, press the CANCEL button.
- If the cleaning was canceled before it finished, restart the cleaning process from step1.
6. Press the CANCEL button.
7. when brewing completes:
- Pour the citric acid solution from the carafe into another container to cool, then remove any scale (white crystals, etc.) floating in the solution.
8. Pour the citric acid solution from step 7 back into the water tank and repeat steps 5 to 7 until there are no more scales.
9. After the main body has cooled down completely:
- Discard the citric acid solution in the stainless carafe and the water tank.
- Rinse and repeat the brewing process using only water a few times to remove the citric acid odor.
10. Press the CANCEL button and unplug the power plug from the outlet.
- If hot water does not dispense smoothly, perform citric acid cleaning again.
How often do you clean Zojirushi coffee maker?
- Clean the carafe and basket/receptacle for the coffee after every use. Warm soapy water will do.
- Clean the reservoir a couple of times a week. Mould, fungus, bacteria… etc… build up in standing water. Doesn’t matter how filtered or purified your water is, they are airborne.
- Clean your coffee maker with vinegar, How often? About every thirty to fifty times you operate the machine. If you’re keeping the carafe, basket, and water reservoir clean, this should suffice. In our cafe that meant a regular Saturday ritual. At home, that means about once a month.
- De-scalers. This is a bigger problem for some people because of their water source. We don’t have a scaling problem so my little container of descaler has lasted us a couple of years, but many people see scaly buildup relatively quickly.
