How much coffee and yield do you put in oxo cold brew coffee maker?
GROUND COFFEE | TOTAL WATER | YIELD |
10 oz 284 g max (Approx 3.5 cups | 40 oz 1200 ml (5 cups) | 24-28 oz 700-800 ml (3-3.5 cups) of coffee concentrate, or 12-14 beverages |

Adding water to freshly ground coffee causes grounds to expand and bubble, known as “blooming.” This is due to the rapid release of carbon dioxide.
Blooming must finish before grounds can fully saturate with water and begin to brew. Very freshly roasted and ground coffee may bloom for up to 10 minutes.

What is a cold brew coffee maker and how does it work?
Coffee is brewed by extracting various organic compounds – mostly aromatic oils and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the roasted bean.
Most brewing methods use some combination of heat, agitation (stirring), and pressure to speed up the extraction process.
Cold brewing… doesn’t. Well, technically, it can still be “cold” brewing even if it uses extraction and/or pressure, but I’ve never heard of any method that uses more than a bit of initial agitation, and none which use pressure. Those might be interesting avenues of exploration, actually.
Since it’s not using heat, pressure, or agitation, that really leaves only a couple more variables to play with: time, amount of soluble material (i.e., coffee), size of the soluble material (i.e., grind) and time.
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s a good, fast cold brew coffee maker?
In general cold brew cannot be made quickly, as it replaces heat with time to extract the flavours. I typically let mine stand for 6+ hrs on the countertop.
If you’re really in a hurry, I’d suggest fooling around with pods. They’re essentially coffee concentrate and should dissolve quickly into the water. You can even carbonate it if you own a soda siphon.
I’m old and cheap, and buying “cold brew coffee maker” strikes me as a waste of money. A jug, coffee and water are all you need.
What is your review of the OXO Good Grips Cold Brew Coffee Maker?
I bought one a couple of years ago and used it once. It makes good cold brew but I felt there were too many parts to the thing! Too complicated. Cold brew doesn’t have to be complicated.
I now use a cold brew device in the form of a two quart Mason jar with a stainless steel coffee filter and screw-on lid. Very simple. It makes equally good cold brew without being a pain.
Does Cold Brew Coffee get Stronger the longer you let it brew?
A cold brew does get bitter the longer you let it brew… up to a certain point.
Every solution reaches a saturation point beyond which no more solute can be dissolved in a liquid solvent. The same concept applies to coffee.
Can you cold brew coffee for 3 days?
If you make cold brew coffee long enough you’ll forget about a batch you’re brewing and find out for yourself why the generally accepted sweet spot for brewing time is 12–24 hours.
I’ve never let a batch go for 3 days, but around 30 hours and longer I hit overextraction for my tastebuds and a distinct sourness creeps into the final product that I find distasteful.
To answer your question, yes you can cold brew coffee for 3 days. You aren’t likely to like the taste of it, but it can be done.
What happens when you heat cold brew coffee?
Cold brew and hot coffee are brewed in entirely different ways. So, heating the cold brew will make massive changes.
When you heat cold brew coffee, the tastes and smells will be changed, and new flavors and smells will release. You may also need to add more hot water or milk to make the right strength.
Moreover, the texture of the coffee will become a bit thinner. The coffee may not be as gentle on your stomach as it was before. Also, when you heat it, the coffee will not stay fresh for as long.
However, these changes can differ depending on how you made the cold brew, what kind of coffee you used, and how long and hot you heated it.
At the Concluding Stage
To sum up, do a search for ‘making cold brew coffee’ on Google and you’ll see a million articles, each with a recipe. Take any of them and make that your starting point.
Then if it’s too strong, add more water next time. If it’s too weak, add more coffee. I think 18 hrs in the fridge is a good place to start.
Then try 24 hrs and see if it makes a difference (I couldn’t find any).
I did a quick search of my own to find the ‘correct’ recommended ratio of coffee to water. What I found was that some recipes for cold brew coffee include pouring hot water over the grounds and letting that steep for a few minutes before adding the cold water and putting it in the fridge.
That would make coffee with a little more ‘character’, i.e. more like iced coffee than cold brew.
