How To Use a Presto Coffee Maker: A Step-By-Step Guide

Are you find it difficult to use a presto coffee maker? Is this the first time you’re trying to make coffee in a presto coffee maker and you don’t know how to use it? You’re in the right place.

In this article we’ll show you how to use a presto coffee maker step-by-step, so please follow the steps and instructions till the end.

One of the most comforting sounds in the world is the bubbling of a coffee percolator at work. And then comes the toasty aroma-it makes for a perfect morning. Percolators have come back to home kitchens, and the Presto 12-cup stainless steel coffee maker is a prime example.

Its elegant, hotel-style design brings a touch of luxury to what is for many a daily pleasure.

This coffee maker brews up to twelve cups of coffee at a cup-a-minute rate, which it then keeps at a constant, piping-hot serving temperature.

An indicator light in the base announces when the coffee is ready. The inner fixtures, the filter basket, and perk tube are also made of stainless steel, rather than the more common (and less durable) aluminum. The power cord is removable to make storage simple.

How To Use a Presto Coffee Maker

How to use a presto coffee maker step-by-step

To assure proper operation, read and follow instructions carefully. Before using for the first time, wash the inside of the coffee maker, cover, and basket assembly with hot sudsy water. Rinse thoroughly.

Do not immerse the coffee maker in water or other liquid.

Step1. For perfect coffee every time, always fill your coffee maker with fresh COLD water.

  • Fill to the desired level, see fill level indicator inside the body.
  • Make at least 2 cups at a time to assure the best flavor.

Step2. Place either regular or percolator grind coffee in the basket.

When adding coffee to the basket, place a finger over the stem to prevent grounds from falling through.

Note: The coffee maker’s rapid percolating action may cause sediment to collect on the bottom of the pot. The sediment can be reduced by using a percolator coffee filter (available from most grocers) in the perk basket.

Step3. Cover the basket with the basket lid.

Step4. Slip the basket on the perk tube and seat the perk tube in the coffee maker perk well.

If the perk tube is not seated properly in the perk well, the coffee maker will not perk.

Step5. Place the cover firmly on the coffee maker.

Step6. Connect the cord to the coffee maker then to a standard AC wall outlet.

  • Never plug the coffee maker in without water or liquid coffee in it.

Step7. The signal light comes on automatically when coffee is ready.

Coffee stays hot as long as the coffee maker is plugged in.

Step8. Disconnect the cord from the electrical outlet first and then from the coffee maker before washing the unit.

Step9. To make additional coffee:

  • Rinse the coffee maker with COLD water before brewing successive pots.

Step10. To reheat:

  • Remove the basket and perk tube from the coffee maker.
  • Heat 3 to 5 minutes depending on the amount of coffee left in the coffee maker.
  • Do not reheat with less than 4 cups in the coffee maker

How To Use a Presto Dorothy cold brew coffee maker?

Step1. Place the cold brewer on a dry, level surface.

Step2. Make sure the control dial is in the OFF (0) position.

  • If not, turn the dial counterclockwise until it stops.

Step3. Insert the stirring cup into the carafe and push it down until it rests on the bottom of the carafe.

Note: The brewer’s stirring mechanism will not work if the cup is not in this position.

Step5. Set the carafe on the base.

Step6. Pour cold tap water or room temperature bottled water into the carafe to the fill line (approximately 26 ounces).

NOTE:

  • If using refrigerated water, you will need to double the brewing time.
  • If water is above the fill line, it may flow over the carafe during the stirring process.

Step7. Connect the power cord to the base and then to a standard 120VAC wall outlet.

Step8. Turn the control dial until the line is just past the halfway mark between the OFF (0) and HIGH SPEED () positions.

Step9. Wait for the “tornado” to form. Then gradually turn the dial until the tip of the “tornado” extends down to the post head of the stirring cup.

NOTE: Turning the dial too rapidly may cause spinning to stop. If this occurs, turn the control dial off. Then slowly turn the dial back on until the line is just past the halfway point.

Step10. Gradually (over about 30 seconds) add ⅔ cup medium grind coffee to the water. Medium grind coffee is the standard grind for commercially available ground coffee.

Step11. After all, coffee has been added, allow the rapid brewer to stir for the amount of time needed to produce the desired strength:

• 10 minutes for a flavorful lighter brew (equivalent to 12 hours of conventional cold brewing).

• 20 minutes for a flavorful full-strength brew (equivalent to 16 hours of conventional cold brewing).

• 30 minutes for a flavorful ultra-strong brew (equivalent to 24 hours of conventional cold brewing).

During the first 3 to 4 minutes, while the tornado is incorporating the coffee into the water, dry coffee will remain on the surface of the water. This is normal.

NOTE: The rapid cold brewer can run indefinitely without damage to the unit.

Step12. If desired, the spinning speed can be increased after a few minutes by turning the control dial clockwise. Increased speed may aid in the removal of grounds from the side of the carafe.

Step13. After stirring time is complete, turn the control dial off. Unplug the cord from the electrical outlet and then from the base. Allow the coffee to rest for at least 5 minutes.

Notes:

  • Resting allows the grounds to settle, making the plunging/filtering process in step 14 easier and more effective.
  • After 5 minutes have elapsed, there will still be grounds visible on the top surface of the coffee. This is normal.

Step14. While the carafe is still on the base, grasp the plunger knob and lid.

  • Insert the plunger into the carafe, making sure the filter is level.
  • With straight downward pressure, press the plunger knob slowly and evenly until the filter contacts the stirring cup. This should take about 15 seconds.

If you plunge too fast, one or both of the following will occur:

• You will feel an increase in resistance.

• Numerous small air bubbles will begin to escape past the plunger gasket.

Do not continue to press. Instead, pull the plunger up slightly—about 1/16th of an inch (2mm) is enough. Pause for a second. Then resume pressing again, evenly and slowly.

NOTE: You may notice some coffee collecting under the stirring cup. This is normal.

Step15. Pour the coffee from the carafe, making sure to hold the plunger knob and lid in position on top of the carafe.

How to use a Presto Myjo coffee maker?

The amount of water used with your MyJo coffee maker will determine the strength of your coffee or tea. For the first use, fill the water reservoir to the fill lines suggested below:

• For normal strength coffee or tea, fill to the 8-ounce line with water.

• For stronger coffee or tea, fill the 6-ounce line with water.

• For weaker coffee or tea, fill the 10-ounce line with water. For subsequent uses, adjust the strength, if necessary, by simply increasing or decreasing the amount of water as desired.

Note: The fill line-markings provide the necessary water to produce 6, 8, and 10 ounces of brewed coffee or tea.

Step1. Place a single-serve pack into the pack holder.

Step2. Press down firmly on the single-serve pack until the bottom of the pack is punctured.

Step3. Heat the water and assemble the unit using one of the following methods:

1. Microwave:

• Fill the water reservoir with the desired amount of water.

• Place the filled reservoir in the microwave.

Be sure the base is not attached to the reservoir, as the base is not microwaved safely. Heat water to the desired temperature.

• Push the pump cap onto the top of the pump.

• Attach the pump to the reservoir. Insert the ridged portion of the pump into the reservoir, pressing around the pump edge until the pump is attached firmly to the reservoir.

Do not press the pump cap or pump.

• Grasp the red grip on the filled reservoir and place the reservoir onto the base. Screw on clockwise until tight.

2. Tea Kettle:

• Use an electric or stovetop tea kettle and heat water to the desired temperature.

• Attach the base to the reservoir before filling it with water.

• Screw the reservoir clockwise until tight. Then, place the unit on a dry, level surface and carefully fill the reservoir with the desired amount of heated water.

• Push the pump cap onto the top of the pump.

• Attach the pump to the reservoir. Insert the ridged portion of the pump into the reservoir, pressing around the pump edge until the pump is attached firmly to the reservoir.

Important: Press only the pump edge. Do not press the pump cap or pump.

Step4. Brew

1. The MyJo coffee maker is designed to fit most coffee mugs.

  • Verify that your mug is the right size before pumping your coffee.
  • The ribs on the bottom of the base should fit within the inside rim of your mug; the diameter of the inner rim of the mug should be at least 2¼˝ but not more than 3¾˝ wide.
  • You should also make sure you select a mug that is the appropriate size for the amount of coffee or tea you are brewing.

2. Place the assembled coffee maker over the selected coffee mug.

3. Position the coffee maker and mug directly in front of you.

3. Grasp the coffee maker base with one hand and place the palm of your other hand on the pump cap.

4. If using a tall travel mug, grasp the top portion of the mug instead of the coffee maker base.

Note: Another method for pumping the water is by placing one hand over the other However, do not use this method when using tall mugs, such as travel mugs.

5. Using the palm of your hand, gradually press down on the pump cap, keeping your hand down until the coffee or tea ceases to flow.

6. Release and allow the pump to return to the original position and press down again.

7. Repeat this process until all the water is expelled through the single-serve pack and into your coffee mug. You will hear a swoosh when all of the water has been expelled.

8. Lift the coffee maker off the coffee mug and place the coffee maker on a plate or in the sink to catch any residual drops.

Step5. Prepare Hot Cocoa and Other Beverages.

When using your MyJo coffee maker to prepare other beverages, such as hot cocoa, cappuccino, or hot cider, BEFORE inserting the single-serve pack into the holder:

1. place the base over your mug. This will allow any powder residue to be contained in your mug once the pack is punctured since these types of single-serve beverages do not have a filter.

For the first use, fill the water reservoir to the 6-ounce line. For subsequent uses, adjust the amount of water as desired.
