In this article we’ll show you how to install LG dishwasher step-by-step from a to z so please follow the steps and instructions below:

A dishwasher requires a source of hot water, access to a drain, and needs a dedicated supply of electrical power.

Such machines can be mounted on wheels and use a temporary connection to a kitchen sink faucet. Such machines require minimal installation.

Or it can be installed in a space allocated for it under a kitchen countertop and adjacent to cabinets.

Most contemporary wiring codes require that the dishwasher can be unplugged for servicing or be wired to a disconnect switch next to the machine.

A permanent connection must be made between the kitchen’s hot water line and the dishwasher and between the dishwasher’s drain hose and the sink drain.

How To Install LG Dishwasher Step-By-Step

What do I need to install LG dishwasher?

Equipment / Tools

  • Screwdrivers
  • Channel-lock pliers or adjustable wrench
  • Drill and spade bit (where necessary)

Materials

  • New dishwasher
  • Dishwasher connector kit
  • Pipe joint compound
  • Electric appliance cord
  • Wire connectors (wire nuts)

How to install LG dishwasher Step-By-Step

Step1. Prepare the installation opening (location) of the dishwasher

1. Select a location as close to the sink as possible for ease of connection to the water and drain pipes.

2. To ensure good drainage, the dishwasher should not be installed more than 1 meter away from the sink.

3. If the dishwasher is installed in a corner, a minimum of 5cm of space is required between the washer and an adjacent cabinet or wall.

Note: Any bare wood surrounding the dishwasher should be sealed with a waterproof paint or sealant to prevent it from swelling.

Step2. Preparation for electrical wiring

1. This appliance must be supplied with the correct and same voltage shown on the instruction manual and connected to an individual, properly earthed branch circuit, protected by a minimum 15 amp circuit breaker or time-delay fuse. Wiring must be 2 wires with Earth.

2. The power plug must be in an accessible location adjacent to and not behind the dishwasher and within 1.2 meters of the dishwasher side.

3. The power plug must be correctly earthed, if in doubt, have it checked by a qualified Electrician. No other appliance should be connected to the same plug outlet by a double adapter or similar plug.

Step3. Preparing the dishwasher for installation

1. Lay the dishwasher on its back.

2. Adjust the legs to the required height (27mm or 1-1/16 inch).

Step4. Installing the dishwasher in its location

1. Before sliding the dishwasher into the installation opening, all necessary height and height adjustments should be made using a spanner.

2. Slide the dishwasher into the cabinet, opening carefully.

  • Make sure that the drain hose inside the cabinet is not kinked or stretched

Note: If the height of the opening is below 850mm, you can remove the top table by unscrewing the 2 screws.

Step5. Install LG dishwasher drain hose

1. If the end of the drain hose does not fit the drain line, use a rubber coupling (not supplied) that is resistant to heat and detergent.

2. This should be available from a plumbing shop or a hardware store.

3. There are two typical connections.

The S trap spigot must be drilled out cleanly and free of obstruction to its maximum internal diameter, if used for drainage.

Connection to the Waste spigot

Check the waste spigot when initially installing. An “OE” error can occur when the waste spigot below the sink is not drilled out properly.

Please ensure the waste spigot connection to this drain hose has been completely drilled out before connecting and securing.

To prevent siphoning, one of the following methods must be used:

  • When the drain hose is connected to a sink S trap or waste disposal unit, the hose must be looped up to the underside of the benchtop and secured.
  • When the drain hose is connected to a separate standpipe, an airtight connection must be made.

Drain hose Extension

  • Use couplings for connections when you extend the drain hose.
  • Drain hose extension or 16-22 mm inside rubber hose able to withstand  90°C hot water.
  • Use the drain hose extension kit appropriately.

Note: When you connect or extend the drain hose, make sure that the drain hose is not kinked. (Bends should have a 40mm radius.)

Step6. Install LG dishwasher  water inlet valve in

Some models consist of an inlet valve combined with a hose.

1. Connect the water supply hose to the water tap.

2. After connecting the inlet hose to the tap, turn on the tap to flush out foreign substances (dirt, sand, or sawdust) in the water lines.

3. Let water drain into a bucket, and check the water temperature.

4. Connect the supply hose to the water inlet valve.

• This dishwasher may be fed with either hot or cold water. If the water can not be maintained below 65ºC, the dishwasher must be connected to cold water.

• When connecting, you may use sealant tape or sealing compound to avoid water leaks.

• Make sure that the line is not kinked or sharply bent.

• It is recommended that the new inlet hose be used and not an existing or old hose

Step7. Final check and assembling

1. Securely hand tighten the supply hose to the water supply.

2. Plug the power supply cord into an earthed electrical point and switch it on after having turned on the circuit breaker.

3. After installing and before using the dishwasher with crockery, we recommend that you use the dishwasher on Quick mode to rinse through.

At this stage, it is useful to ensure that there are no operating problems or water leaks.

4. When the dishwasher is used for the first time, there may be a loud noise, if this happens, turn off the power and restart the dishwasher.

How to level LG dishwasher?

After installing the dishwasher, you may notice a slight sticking of the door to the dishwasher, when you open or close the door.

If this does happen you need to adjust the level of the dishwasher.

Case1. In case the door is slanted to the right.

• If the door slants to the right, follow these instructions:

1) Unscrew(counter-clockwise) the left leg of the backside and correct the level.

Why does it cost so much to install a dishwasher?

There’s a lot more to it than just plugging it in. First, the installer must be licensed. A license for anything costs money, plus it requires a lot of hours studying to pass the required tests, and not to mention any other requirements set in place by the city, state, etc.

When installing a dishwasher there are several things you will be working with, and you have to be knowledgeable on all of them and prepared for the worse. You working with the home electrical supply and the home water supply.

You’re also working with the cabinets, flooring, and countertops. If you remove the original dishwasher and install the new one, you have twice as much work to do. The labor charge will be doubled for double the work.

Usually, I find the countertop where the old dishwasher was secured has rotted due to the heat and moisture escaping the top of the d/w. I have to find a solution for the rotted countertop so the d/w will be secure. This is time-consuming. Let the installer get it secured. You can always hire a carpenter later to repair the damaged wood.

Some kitchens in older homes will have many layers of flooring/ linoleum laud down on top of each other. The d/w is trapped by all these floors. These layers need to be cut back to get the old d/w out. This is not the responsibility or forte of the installer. You could have a carpenter take care of this prior.

There is almost always an issue with the plumbing. Since the old dishwasher was installed years ago, the water cut-off hasn’t been used and it’s rusted and fused. It’s not going to turn without breaking and they always seem to leak. More time is needed to get the water off and more time to repair any leaks. An installer is not a plumber and some situations require a licensed plumber to repair. A plumber charges more per hour than an installer.

The electrical is pretty basic. Usually hard wired into a dedicated breaker. The only real issue is the time spent locating the breaker box and the correct breaker. If the electrical supply isn’t grounded or is tied to other appliances, an electrician will have to make the needed repairs.

I’ve had d/w installs take 20 min and others take four hours. You never know what you will run into until you run into it.

Things you can do to save time for the installer:

  • Has the breaker box been labeled?
  • Make sure the water cut-off valve to the d/w works and doesn’t leak.
  • Have some old towels available to soak up any water.
  • Know where the water shut off to the house is located.
  • Remove everything stored under the kitchen sink.

An installer is not licensed to make electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or flooring repairs. If repairs to those need to be done, have them completed before the installer arrives. There will be additional charges if the installer has to return another day to complete the installation.
